June & July Public Events at the YMCA of the Pikes Peak Region
It’s summertime and the YMCA of the Pikes Peak Region is ready to have fun with the entire family. The YMCA of the Pikes Peak Region is a non-profit organization that helps build strong kids, strong families and strong communities. A wide variety of healthy and wholesome programs and activities for all generations that build a healthy mind, body and spirit are always offered. Activities such as swimming, sports, cardio and strength equipment, fitness classes, free child care, before and after school care, summer day camp, residence camp, senior programming and more are available. This June and July, the six YMCA branches of the Pikes Peak Region are offering the following activities: Association-wide Events: Outdoor Soccer Registration Join the YMCA and have a blast learning and practicing the skill of soccer! Children learn skills and have fun without the pressure of try-outs and competition. Everyone plays and everyone wins! Ages: 3 – 6 years, 1st – 6th grade Registration: July 6- August 25 Practices Begin: Week of September 3 Season (6 games): September 15 – October 20 Swim Lessons For over 110 years the YMCA of the Pikes Peak Region has been the leader and innovator for aquatics and aquatics programs. We teach over 3,000 children how to swim every year. The YMCA offers lessons for all ages and skill levels at our 11 pools in the Pikes Peak community. The YMCA also offers programs such as parent/child swim lessons, recreational swimming, arthritis exercise, water fitness, pre-natal exercise, lap swimming, masters swimming, swim fun club, family swim, Flick & Float (kids enjoy a fun flick while floating with their friends in a YMCA pool), American Red Cross CPR-PR, First Aid, AED classes. Itsy Bitsy Yoga On-going Now offered at the Downtown Family Center, these classes are geared towards very young children from 6 weeks to 4 years and introduces them to Yoga using interactive poses, songs and games for kids and parents. Call Sally Kennedy at 329-7271 for class information.
Before-and After-School Programs On-going The Downtown YMCA offers before and after-school care at Foothills, Goldcamp, Manitou Springs, Pinion Valley and Trailblazer Elementary schools. 4th of July Celebration Wednesday, July 4th ●10am - 1pm ● FREE What a great way to spend the 4th! Join us for a free BBQ (while supplies last) and fun games and activities for the whole family including a bounce house and obstacle course. We’ll even have a decorated bike parade! CPR-PR / AED / FA Course Saturday, May 19 ● 8am – 5pm ● $65: Members, $70: Non-members Students will learn how to administer CRP and use an Automated External Defibrillator as well as how to rescue and infant child or adult, the use of a pocket mask, bag mask and an AED. This class is a combination of First Aid and CPR-PR / AED. Certification for ARC or AHA CPR-PR/ AED & First Aid is offered.
First Aid Course Tuesday, July 3 ● 4 – 9:30pm ● Ages 11 & older ● $35: Members, $45: Program Participants Learn first aid basics such as: rescuer duties, victim and rescuer safety, identifying the problem, what to do when the emergency is over. Students will learn what to do in medical emergencies such as chocking, fainting, stroke, if someone has an injury emergency like a broken bone or internal and external bleeding as well as an environmental emergency such as poisoning, bites or a situation that is temperature related. Certification for ARC and AHA are offered.

Flag Football Pee Wee Clinic Monday, Wednesday & Friday ● July 9 - 27 ● 11:30am – 12:15pm ● $30: Members, $52: Program Participants Children 3 -6 years old learn to play football! Kids are never too young to learn teamwork, and the fun of football.
Baseball Pee Wee Clinic Saturdays ● July 7 - 28 ● 9 – 10am ● $25: Members, $35: program participants Let’s play ball! Children 3 -6 years old learn the skills and teamwork of America’s favorite pastime. Plus it’s simply fun!
YMCA Lifeguard Class July 23 – 27 ● 8am – 5pm every day of ● $150 members, $175 program participants The YMCA of the Pikes Peak Region is the leader in lifeguard training in the Pikes Peak area. Learn all the basics of life-guarding, including safety, first-aid.
Cheerleading Class July 10 – 31, Tuesdays ● 5:15 – 6:15pm ● $28 members, $42 program participants Ready OK! Give me a Y! Give me an M! Give me a C! Give me an A! Want to be a cheerleader? Kids ages 5-12 will have a great time in a safe environment learning all the skills they need to help them make the team. Learn a few fun cheers and meet new friends too.
Babysitting Course Saturday, July 14 ● 8am – 5pm ● Ages 11 and older ● $35: Members, $50: Non-members Everything you need to know and what every parent wants you to know about babysitting: identifying safety related problems, how germs can be transmitted, responsible play, how to keep themselves and children safe, interview perspective employees, phone safety tips, personal safety tips, being a role model, following house rules, SIDS, basic care for children and infants, games to play, first aid, rescue breathing, how to handle acts of violence and crime and much, much more. Family Climbing Wall: On-going ● Monday – Friday ● 5 - 7pm Our family climbing wall provides fun for all ages. You'll be amazed how young elementary school children can climb the overhanging wall by the "mountain slide." For a challenge for the entire family come to one of our instructional classes and learn how to climb safely. Water Slide On-going Wednesday, 8 – 9pm ● Friday, 7:15 – 8:15pm ● Saturday, 4 - 6pm ● Sunday, 2 - 4pm Water slides aren’t just for kids! Our water slide is fun for the entire family.
