JOB SUMMARY:
This position is in the Office of Professional Standards, Training Academy.
The primary responsibility of all Police Officers is to protect the lives and
property of the citizens of Colorado Springs, to enforce the laws of the state
and the statutes/ordinances of the City of Colorado Springs, and to serve the
citizens in whatever way necessary within the scope of their duties.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
The following qualifications must be met upon application registration: be
at least twenty-one (21) years of age; have completed an Associate’s degree or
60 semester hours from an accredited college or university; be in good physical
condition; meet medical standards as established by the City of Colorado Springs
Police Department; have not been convicted of a felony; have not been convicted
of a misdemeanor crime that would affect certification by the Colorado Peace
Officer Standards and Training Board; and have, or be able to obtain, a Colorado
Driver’s license.
Prior to selecting a test date, applicants must demonstrate that they meet
the Department’s education qualifications by providing an official
transcript(s) and a completed Employment Application.
By date of hire, applicant must be a US citizen, permanent resident alien,
temporary resident alien, applicant for temporary resident status, refugee, or
asylee. All applicants that are offered employment must provide documents
to establish their identity and employment eligibility to work in the United
States.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
Bilingual in English/Spanish.
TESTING PROCESS:
T Police Officer positions with the City of Colorado Springs are filled by a
process approved by the Colorado Springs Civil Service Commission.
Applicants may register to take the initial examination, the Law Enforcement
Assessment Battery (LEAB) Assessment, and submit an Employment Application at
any time. Test scores from the LEAB Assessment are valid for a
period of 12 months. Applicants may not retest while their LEAB scores are
still valid. Applicants that achieve a minimum score on the Ability
test component of the LEAB are eligible for further consideration for
employment. Applicants with the highest LEAB scores will be invited to the
Phase II test which consists of a Structured Interview and Physical Ability
Test. Applicants that do not pass the Physical Ability Test are not
eligible for further consideration for employment.
A polygraph examination, psychological evaluation, medical examination and
drug test will be required before a final offer of employment is made.

police officer experience as a patrol officer within the last five years.
The Department may waive the requirement to have served as a patrol officer in
certain circumstances. The patrol officer requirement may be satisfied by
successful performance as a federal agent in the FBI, DEA, Border Patrol, or
Secret Service. Experienced officers that have served three years as a
patrol officer, but have subsequently been appointed or promoted to Detective or
promoted to a supervisory position, may also satisfy the requirement.
