2008-2009 Children’s Playhouse Series

At the Sangre de Cristo Arts Center

Gruffalo Tales: Saturday, October 4, 2008, 11:00 a.m. & 2:00 p.m.
Join Mouse on an adventurous journey through the deep, dark wood in this magical, musical adaptation. Mouse can scare hungry animals away with tall stories of the terrifying Gruffalo, but what happens when he comes face to face with the very creature he imagined? Songs, laughs and scary fun for children ages 3 and up . . . and their adults. Let your imagination run wild!

Moscow Cats: Saturday, January 31, 2009, 11:00 a.m. & 2:00 p.m.
What has one dog, five clowns and 35 cats? The “spec-cat-ular” cast of Moscow Cats Theater does. This one-of-a-kind entertainment features non-stop action by a group of talented felines performing original and astounding acrobatic feats. Watch as they dazzle with death-defying balancing acts, negotiate complex mazes, walk a tightrope and maneuver paw-stands. Dubbed by Newsday as “the cat’s meow,” this is an international family hit you don’t want to miss.

The Musical Adventures of Flat Stanley
Saturday, February 14, 2009, 11:00 a.m. & 2:00 p.m.
In a whirlwind musical travelogue, Flat Stanley — the ultimate exchange student— scours the globe for a solution to his unusual problem. He’s stamped, posted and cancelled from Washington D.C., to France to Honolulu and beyond. And whether he’s rapping with the Declaration of Independence, thwarting a robbery at the Louvre Museum in Paris, or “hanging ten” off the coast of Hawaii, Stanley is closing in on his goal of being a three-dimensional boy once more.

Alice in Wonderland: Saturday, March 14, 2009, 11:00 a.m. & 2:00 p.m.
The Sangre de Cristo School of Dance under the direction of Karen P. Schaffenburg will present Alice in Wonderland. Take a journey through a world of chaos and nonsense with Alice as she meets the likes of the always-in-a-hurry White Rabbit, the Mad Hatter, and the grinning Cheshire Cat.

Hot Peas ‘N Butter: Saturday, April 11, 2009, 11:00 a.m. & 2:00 p.m.
Hot Peas ‘N Butter is a unique children’s musical group founded on the premise that you can reach kids through music without lowering musical standards. The musical group is featured on Sirius Satellite Radio’s “Kids Stuff.” With the appearance of their hit videos, “Number 1” and “Deep Down,” on TV stations Nickelodeon and Noggin, Hot Peas ‘N Butter is quickly becoming a household name! You won’t beat this professional and caring performance that will take the audience’s creativity to a whole new level.
