New Community Fair Spotlights Opportunities For Minorities

The first annual Colors of Community, a fair promoting diversity in careers and community participation will be held at Hillside Community Center on Saturday,
Sept. 13, 2008 from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.

The purpose of the event is to educate and connect minority professionals to career and civic engagement opportunities and to increase awareness of specific recruitment, hiring, selection and participation processes in the community.

Professionals from the minority community are invited to the Colors of Community Fair to browse booths, collect information and speak to representatives from local agencies, nonprofits and other organizations about employment and volunteer opportunities. This is the inaugural year for the Colors of Community Fair and organizers hope it will become an annual event.

Representatives from the following organizations will attend: City of Colorado Springs, Colorado Springs Police Department, Colorado Springs Utilities, School District 11 and other school districts, Urban League of the Pikes Peak Region, CASA of the Pikes Peak Region, Pikes Peak Workforce Center, Colorado Springs Black Leadership Forum, area Chambers of Commerce, Memorial Health System, Penrose-St. Francis Hospital, Colorado Springs Fire Department, Pikes Peak Library District, Center for Nonprofit Excellence, Leadership Pikes Peak and more.
