Alzheimer’s Care Center Accepts Admissions

Pike’s Peak Care Center’s Alzheimer’s Care Center at 2719 N Union Blvd, is now accepting admissions. This special Care Center provides an alternative in residential healthcare for residents with Alzheimer’s disease or similar conditions affecting memory, judgment, and thinking skills in everyday life. Every aspect of the Center, from the decor to the meals to the quiet atmosphere, creates a soothing, homelike setting and lifestyle that promote dignity and allow memory-impaired residents to live life to the fullest.

“Pike’s Peak Care Center takes another step forward in serving the community,” said Donna Velasquez, Alzheimer’s Care Director. “Many people with Alzheimer’s, or other related memory disorders, may experience difficulty with independence and freedom in their current living arrangements. The purpose of this special Care Center is to provide an atmosphere where special needs can be met in a comfortable, safe, and homelike setting.”

Research shows that providing structured activity can decrease confusion and fear. The structured schedule of active programming in the center serves to give the residents a sense of purpose and meaning, as well as provides opportunities for success. It brings the focus of care to the individual needs of each resident, rather than those of a group.

Specific admission criteria are needed for the Care Center in order to assess potential residents who can benefit from its services. Persons with similar needs and functioning levels can best be served in a group with similar levels of cognitive abilities and interests.

“We want to provide an experience that makes our residents feel like they did in their prior home,” said Donna Velasquez. “We help preserve our residents’ precious experiences of life while offering a long-term care solution that they and their families will feel good about.”
