Commissioners Thank School District 2 Students For Their Efforts In The ArtsNew artwork from two School District 2 schools now adorns the walls of the Board of County Commissioners’ third floor hearing room. Students and staff from Fox Meadow Middle School and Mountain Vista Community School attended the Board’s regularly scheduled meeting today to accept the resolutions and speak about art. “Art is something you can do to express your feelings,” said Karlye Enkler, a student at Mountain Vista Community School. “Art is something I do when I am sad or have something on my mind,” said Vanessa Haase from Fox Meadow Middle School. The resolutions pertain to a county-wide effort to further integrate the arts into school curriculums and supports District 2’s mission to prepare and empower students to become educated, lifelong learners and responsible citizens. The Board of County Commissioners understands the importance of art in school curriculums and knows that it contributes to the creative, collaborative and critical thinking skills necessary for developing a global work force. “It’s just wonderful to look back and see the expression of art on our walls,” said County Commissioner Sallie Clark. “I’m so impressed with the quality of artwork we’ve been able to display in our County Administration Building. I invite the citizens of our community to visit our boardroom to personally view this ongoing student artwork demonstration.” “We greatly appreciate the support of School District 2 in this program, which provides an opportunity to introduce our young leaders to county government, while also providing an outlet to display their talents,” said County Commissioner Amy Lathen. “I want to thank Harrison School District for affording us the opportunity to really support the arts and arts integration into the curriculum,” said Mountain Vista Community School’s art teacher, Rozx Gallegos. “Keeping an arts integrated curriculum enhances the whole student and is part of real learning. It helps students have life-long commitments and experiences.”
