CTU recognized with Military Award of Excellence
COLORADO
SPRINGS, CO.—Colorado Technical University was honored recently with the 2007
Military Affairs Award of Excellence by The Greater Colorado Springs Chamber of
Commerce. The award recognizes outstanding support shown to the men and women of
our armed forces by an organization in the Pikes Peak region.
CTU President Greg Mitchell accepted the award on behalf of the University as
presented by Brian Binn, President of the Military Affairs Division of the
Chamber of Commerce, and Wes Clark, Chair of the Military Affairs Council. Cited
in the presentation were CTU’s notable contributions to our men and women in
uniform and their families such as the donation of 35 personal computers to the
Fort Carson Family Readiness Center, as well as the shipment of 1200 garments to
the Air Force Theater hospital at Balad Air Base in Iraq. Apart from its
standard scholarship programs for military personnel, CTU was also recognized
for the establishment of a million dollar scholarship fund for children of
military heroes who have died or who have become disabled in the line of duty.
Addressing the large assembly during the Chamber’s 115th Annual Dinner
celebration, Mr. Mitchell thanked the Chamber of Commerce saying that it was an
honor to receive an award for doing what is “the right thing to do.” Mr.
Mitchell encouraged other individuals and organizations to give themselves the
“gift” of supporting our troops between now and the holidays through the
numerous venues available within the city of Colorado Springs.
