Local Students to Attend National Leadership Camp in Philadelphia

Four students from the Colorado Virtual Academy were selected to participate in a national conference in Philadelphia, PA at Villanova University on July 25-27 following a nationwide competition among students attending public virtual schools. The Making Waves Leadership Camp is hosted by K12 Inc. – a leading national provider of curriculum and services to public virtual schools across the country.

A total of 60 students who are using the K12 learning program in public virtual schools from across the country are participating in the leadership workshop that encourages young students from grades 7-10 to make “big waves” in their community. To apply to attend this inaugural camp launch, students submitted essays about their civic involvement and experiences learning a public virtual school. The winners were selected by K12 as outstanding representatives of their school and local community.
Students participated in workshops focused on increasing communication skills, time management, positive risk taking, goal achieving and presentation speaking, all of which were combined and put in action in a final capstone, community service project the last day.

To speak to students that attended the Making Waves Leadership Camp, parents, teachers or administrators, please contact Maureen Condrin at (202) 777-3683 or mcondrin@dcigroup.com.
