School District 11 Appoints Committee to Implement Configuration and Use StudyOn April 25, 2007, the School District 11 Board of Education approved the School Configuration and Use Study charge and directed the district administration to form an appropriate committee. Applications for committee membership were received through May 18, 2007. A selection committee reviewed all applications and, using the charge adopted by the board as a guideline, selected members to serve on the committee. Their recommendations were presented to the board for approval at the Board of Education meeting on June 6, 2007, and the Board of Education approved the School Configuration and Use Study Committee and its co-chairs as presented. The purpose of the School Configuration and Use Study is to maximize opportunities for student achievement by ensuring that District 11 schools are able to deliver the best instructional program possible within the limit of available assets and resources. The charge from the Board of Education is to: _ Study and assess schools’ performance, instructional program delivery, and
fixed assets and resources The School Configuration and Use Study Committee will be co-chaired by Rebecca Theobald and Chuck Fowler. Its members include: Leslie Beers, Luis Cortez, Evelyn Cortez-Ford, Sam Dunlap, Rebecca Fuller, Allison Hunter, Newell Ledbetter, Linda LeMieux, Marcy McNeil, Toby Norton, Kathleen O’Brien, Steven Sanchez, Richard Serby, Dionne Williams, Forrest Ecks, Jeanine Fark, Thomas Gosch, Robert Null, Libby Bailey, Richard Law, Mary Lewis, Lori Duffy, Katie Freidel, Dannette Houde, Patricia Lavandar, Lorrie Myers, Matthew Harding, Sharon Tunson and Charles Guy. The committee will be assisted by non-voting District 11 staff members Barbara Day, Shirley Stevens, Mike Poore, Elaine Naleski and Frank Bernhard. Committee co-chair Rebecca Theobald is a District 11 parent volunteer at Palmer High School, North Middle School and Steele Elementary School. She has served on the District Accountability Advisory Committee. She is a member of the board of directors of Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) and has volunteered for the Colorado Springs Youth Symphony Association and the Pikes Peak Boy Scouts Council. She is a doctoral candidate at the University of Colorado at Boulder. Co-chair Chuck Fowler is a Colorado Springs independent businessman in real
estate development, community management and public relations. He has served as
the chair of the District Accountability Advisory Committee. He has volunteered
with the Mountain Shadows Community Association, the Arthritis Foundation and
the Pikes Peak or Bust Rodeo and is currently with the Legislative Watch
Committee of the Chamber of Commerce. |
