ROLL 2007 picks up the pace
Favorite artists such as Taliah Lempert, Larry Diskin, and John & Jennifer Ellis will be returning this year, and many new artists will be featured, including Canadian Sculptor David McCelvey and local photographer Holly Conlon. New for this year is the "108 Prayer Wheels for Peace" project. This community-based project began with the donation of used bicycle rims. Guided by Mary Beth Hamilton of Children's ARC and Amber Cote of FutureSelf, local students from these organizations will decorate many of the 108 wheels, and local artists will complete the remaining ones. The wheels will be fitted into a sculptural framework crafted by Tim Eckert, who created Smokebrush's Giant Driving Toaster, and the final piece, a kinetic sculpture celebrating art, collaboration, peace, and the environment, will be installed on the roof of Smokebrush Gallery. The band "mumbo-jumbo" and Drum Academy USA's Flying Eagles will provide entertainment on July 6. Ray de Mers will play mandolin and other stringed instruments during the August 3 Art Walk."mumbo-jumbo" features Michelle Webb and Joe Seltzer with fusion dub jazz, listen online at <www.myspace.com/nobsjustmusic> Drum Academy USA will present the best of their young drum groups with a variety of styles. Beverages will be provided by Bristol Brewing Company. ROLL 2007 is a fundraising event and all donations will go to the Medicine Wheel Trail Group. Last year we raised $400 for this cycling organization, the results of which can be enjoyed by all at the new Freeride Park in Red Rock Canyon State Park!
