Listen for the Echo
According to news sources here are the top TV shows of 1966: Bonanza, Gomer
Pyle, The Lucy Show, The Red Skelton Hour, Batman, The Andy “Griffith Show,
Bewitched, Beverly Hillbillies, Hogan’s Heroes and Green Acres.
Wow! Was this country in Denial or what? Historians can also inform you of this
period, they will tell you of a huge buildup of troops to Vietnam, while many of
us have read the obituaries; some we knew, some we were only told about. Do you
hear echoes of history repeating itself? Are we about to engage in another
“Large Buildup,” where the majority of participants are poor, minority, and the
song gets too familiar. How can we forget the losses in Vietnam? What do we
think when we visit on Memorial Day and view a sea of US Flags flying in the
breeze, while we are remembering some soldier’s sacrifice? It is refreshing to
see the story on our Front page, not only remembering, but doing something to
help those that have served.
Let us enjoy this Valentine week and quietly think of those that have served.
I will be happier when the snow melts (June) and will be looking forward to
enjoying our world this year.
