Colorado State University - Pueblo President’s Leadership Program deadline
is February 1, 2007
High school students interested in earning scholarship dollars while honing
their leadership skills and participating in community activities are encouraged
to apply for Colorado State University – Pueblo’s President’s Leadership Program
(PLP). The application deadline for next year’s class is February 1.
The President’s Leadership Program is a four-year academic leadership program
that develops and trains emerging leaders. PLP students work and learn in
community, educational, corporate and non-profit settings to develop their
leadership skills. CSU-Pueblo’s PLP program is a member of the Colorado
Leadership Alliance, a consortium of comprehensive leadership education programs
at undergraduate institutions across Colorado. Through shared resources and
collaborative efforts, CLA’s focus is to develop the next generation of
Colorado's leaders.
Eligibility requirements of the program include a high school cumulative grade
point average of 3.2 and two letters of recommendations with a completed
application form. Program benefits of the four-year program include a $2,000 per
year, merit-based scholarship and a minor in Leadership Studies.
As part of their community outreach projects this fall, PLP scholars established
a campus-based community service center and produced a video for children on
hospital procedures. The PLP Senior class produced a video for St. Mary-Corwin
Medical Center (SMC) entitled What to Expect . . . . A Kid's Guide to the ER to
help inform local, elementary-age youth about what happens when they are
seriously hurt or sick and have to be taken to a hospital emergency room. The
Junior class established a Community Service Center and web site, which will
serve as a clearinghouse for volunteer and community service activities,
offering numerous avenues for CSU-Pueblo students and staff to become involved
in the Pueblo community and surrounding region.
