Fountain Creek Regional Park expanding

El Paso County is adding more open space to Fountain Creek Regional Park. The Board of County Commissioners approved a contract to take ownership of an undeveloped piece of land adjacent to the park.

The 11.6 acre lot is being donated to the county from Red Rock Holdings, LLC and Larry Schreder. The county has had a conservation easement on this site since 2003. The county cannot own a piece of land and also hold the conservation easement; therefore, it is assigning the conservation easement to the William J. Palmer Parks Foundation, Inc.

“This piece of land will blend nicely into our current park, and I believe it is a real asset to have in this part of the county that keeps growing. The site will remain open space for the public to enjoy, but it has potential to add more trails to the park," said Board Vice Chair Dennis Hisey. "To make this addition even better, since it was a gift, the county did not have to use taxpayer dollars to purchase it," he added.
