Colorado Springs Choral SocietySingers, an opportunity you don’t want to miss! Sing with the Award-Winning Colorado Springs Chorale as the Chorale celebrates its 50th Anniversary Season with some very special performances! In March, the Chorale will celebrate its 50th with a very special Great Works
classical production, Choral Gold, highlighting the Chorale’s 50 years’
performances by singing choral blockbusters! The Chorale, with 63-piece
orchestra and under the direction of Donald P. Jenkins, will share an evening of
great favorites from a "golden literature" of the most passionate, thrilling,
and satisfying choral works. They will present these grand, epic, and
surprisingly personal choral masterpieces, from cathedral, the concert hall, the
opera house, Broadway, and home, field, and church in all their magnificence.
The concert includes Handel’s incomparable, Hallelujah Chorus, Mozart’s Ave
Verum, and Bach’s Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring, pieces from Mendelssohn’s Elijah
and Brahms' Requiem. Opera selections include the dramatic triumphal scene from
Verdi’s Aida, the Toreador’s Entrance from Bizet’s Carmen; the Wedding Chorus
from Wagner’s Lohengrin, and the Humming Chorus from Puccini’s Madama Butterfly.
The Broadway stage is represented by Summertime and Plenty O’ Nuthin’ from
Gershwin's Porgy and Bess. A moving African-American spiritual, Mary Wore Three
Links of Chain will be presented. The production concludes with the two
brilliant finale choruses from Orff’s Carmina Burana, loved by classical music
goers and familiar to almost everyone through their use as background music in
countless movies and commercials. Auditions for membership in the Chorale will be held Tue, Jan 2, and Wed, Jan 3, 2007 from 6:30 - 10:30 pm, at First Christian Church, 16 E. Platte Ave. Auditions are by appointment only. For further information, call Jackie at the Chorale Office, (719) 634-3737. Additional material is also available on the Chorale web page, www.cschorale.org.
