Pueblo Citizen of the Year AwardEach year during the Annual Meeting the Greater Pueblo Chamber of Commerce presents the Citizen of the Year award to an individual who has made a substantial contribution to the Pueblo area. The Greater Pueblo Chamber calls on all of its members to nominate someone they feel is deserving of such an award. “The Citizen of the Year award is one of great distinction. Those who have received the award are among Pueblo’s elite,” explains Rod Slyhoff, President and CEO of the Greater Pueblo Chamber of Commerce. Past nominees include Bret Kelly, Francis King, Helen Thatcher White, Bob Jackson, Harold Mabie, Louise Keach, Walt Bassett, Jerry Robbe, Joseph A. Fortino, Maggie Divelbliss, Dave Cardinal, Frank & Marie Barkman, Tommy Thompson, Bob Rawlings, Ray Aguilera, Pat Kelly, Malik Hasan, Fay Kastelic, Dave Feamster, Chris Weaver, Mahlon “Butch” White, Ruth Steele, Dr. Jarvis and Mary Jo Ryals, Paulette Stuart and Gene Wilcoxson. The nominee’s efforts to make Pueblo a better place to live and work should be evident. He or she must exhibit leadership in community projects and have completed those projects successfully. Nominees should also be involved in the betterment of the community through active civic participation. Their involvement may be in health and human services, education, recreation, arts and cultural improvements, economic development, or community-based organizations that contribute to the quality of life in Pueblo. This year marks the 96th Annual Meeting and Dinner for the Greater Pueblo Chamber of Commerce, which will be held on Thu, Jan 25 2007 at the Pueblo Convention Center beginning at 6 pm. The “Citizen of the Year” presentation is always the highlight of the event. This award is a great way to show your gratitude to those who are committed to Pueblo.
