CCCS Begins National Search To Replace PCC’s Davis
A national search to replace Pueblo Community College President Mike Davis,
who died in a plane crash on Aug. 3, will begin later this month.
Dr. Nancy McCallin, president of the Colorado Community College System,
announced the search with sadness and grief. “Dr. Davis’s death is a huge loss
for the entire community, but especially for the talented team of faculty and
staff at PCC. While it will be impossible to replace Mike Davis in their hearts,
the college needs a permanent leader who can carry on the great work he
started.”
Davis was flying alone in his personal plane to an open house at PCC’s Cortez
campus when the plane crashed. A well-respected figure in the Pueblo community,
Davis was known for his strong leadership at PCC. He became president in 2001
and prior to that served as executive vice president and interim president
during 2000.
Marjorie Villani will continue serving as interim president during the search,
McCallin said. Villani had been serving as PCC’s interim executive vice
president since last November. Prior to that, she was vice president of PCC’s
Fremont Campus in Canon City and its Southwest Center in Durango and Cortez
The CCCS Human Resource Office is developing the search process timeline and
identifying possible members to serve on the selection committee.
“Once candidates are identified, finalists will be brought to the PCC campus to
meet both internal and external constituents,” McCallin said.
CCCS also has a national search under way to replace Joe Garcia, former Pikes
Peak Community College president, who begins his new job as president of
Colorado State University-Pueblo this month.
The Colorado Community College System comprises the state's largest system of
higher education serving more than 116,000 students annually. CCCS oversees
career and academic programs in the 13 state community colleges and career and
technical programs in more than 160 school districts and seven other
post-secondary institutions.
