CSU-Pueblo StrongWomen™ Training Program

The Colorado State University Cooperative Extension Office in El Paso County is hosting a StrongWomen™ Training Program on Thu, Sep 14 from 8:15 am to 4:15 pm. The event will be held at First Presbyterian Church, 219 East Bijou Street. The cost of the training is $98 and registration is due by Sep 1, 2006.

Participants who complete the training program will be given a certificate and provided with the tools to assist them in beginning StrongWomen™ classes in the community. It is suggested that those who attend be in good health and are committed to using the knowledge and skills that they gain to make more of these programs available to women.

The StrongWomen™ program was developed by Miriam Nelson, PhD, an associate professor at the Gerald J. and Dorothy R. Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy at Tufts University. The program is based upon years of research on how strength training and proper nutrition improve the health of women of all ages. “Strength is a critical factor in living healthier, more active lives. Our research shows that a program of strength training not only improves bone density but reduces falls, improves arthritis symptoms, and increases flexibility and strength,” says Dr. Nelson. The program is appropriate for both sedentary and active women.

The $98 fee includes the StrongWomen™ Program ToolKit, breakfast, lunch and snacks, information and discussion on how to arrange classes, exercise instruction and the opportunity to practice the exercises with trained professionals encouraging correct movements. All weights will be provided for the training session. Please wear appropriate clothing and bring a towel or exercise mat.

Please call the Extension Office at (719) 636-8920 or send an e-mail to <Sheilabarry@elpasoco.com> to obtain a registration form.
