student is transferring from a parochial, private, or other public school at the
kindergarten or first grade level and does not meet the District 11 entrance age
requirements, it is recommended that the principal, teacher and a supervisor
screen the student as an exception and make a decision at the building level,
using any of the support services recommended. If testing is used in any of
these cases, no charge will be made to parents.
FOREIGN-LANGUAGE SPEAKERS: Persons who do not speak English are encouraged to
visit their neighborhood schools for help. Each site can call on translators for
assistance. Some information on D-11’s Web site is in Spanish. D-11’s Spanish
message line is at 520-2012. Contact the nearest school or call the English as a
Second Language program, 520-2417.
BOUNDARY INFORMATION AND PERMITS: School boundary information may be obtained at
520-2943 or www.d11.org/boundaries/. Parents may, on a space available basis,
apply for a permit for their children to attend any school in the district other
than the one designated by their address. However, parents will assume
responsibility for transportation of their children if this option is exercised.
Parents should go to the receiving school to request a permit form.
TRANSPORTATION POLICY: Check with the school, call D-11’s Transportation
Department at 520-2940, or visit www.d11.org/transportation.
SPECIAL-NEEDS STUDENTS: Parents of students with emotional, mental or physical
special needs may call the Special Education Office, 520-2148, for information
about services.
BREAKFAST/LUNCH PROGRAM: Lunch prices are $1.80 for elementary school students
and $1.95 for middle and high school students. White milk is 50 cents, and
chocolate milk is 55 cents. Breakfast, if offered, including milk, is 95 cents
for elementary school students and $1.05 for middle and high school students.
Families who meet certain income guidelines may qualify for free or
reduced-price lunches. Applications are available at each school, or call Food
Services, 520-2924, for information. Many schools offer breakfast. Call
individual schools for times.
For students who were enrolled in the district database and who qualified for
meal benefits on the last day of school during school year 2005-06, all free and
reduced-price lunches and breakfasts (where served) will continue for up to 30
school days in the new school year or until a new form has been completed.
Households are required by USDA federal guidelines to fill out new meal benefits
applications each school year.
DAY CARE: Before- and after-school day care is available at these elementary
schools: Audubon, Bates, Buena Vista, Carver, Chipeta, Columbia, Fremont, Henry,
Jackson, Jefferson, Lincoln, Longfellow, Madison, Midland, Penrose, Queen

times, providers and costs.

tuition-based, and some are funded by Title I or the Colorado Preschool Program.
Tuition-based programs are offered at Chipeta, King, Martinez, Rudy, Scott,
Steele, Stratton, Taylor and Trailblazer elementary schools for the 2006-2007
school year. To enroll in a tuition-based program, contact the school to
determine if space is available. Tuition-based programs require a registration
fee of $265. First payment is due Sept. 1, and last payment is due April 1 with
no charge for May. For information, call 520-2350.
