International announces new dates for ‘07 eventIn 2007, the International at Castle Pines Golf Club will move from its traditional August time slot to the week of the Fourth of July, officials of the Tournament have announced. The event will be held July 2-8, 2007. “We’re delighted with the change, which we feel will provide the opportunity for all of the finest golfers in the world to play here, thereby further enriching our Tournament across the globe,” said Executive Director Larry O. Thiel. The announcement comes on the heels of PGA Tour Commissioner Tim Finchem’s announcement of the Tour’s new six-year television contract with CBS Sports, NBC Sports and the Golf Channel. As always, the Saturday and Sunday rounds of The International will be telecast on CBS in 2007. The Golf Channel will provide coverage of Thursday and Friday’s rounds. Last year, Finchem unveiled a new system for the Tour that includes a season-long points race leading to a playoff system comprised of three events followed by the Tour Championship, causing a restructuring of the schedule of events for the year. The International plans to hold a formal press conference later in the year to discuss further details of the date change, including the impact to the community. “Obviously, we feel our new position on the Tour schedule is very
advantageous in that we will be played at the peak of the Tour season, between
two major championships. In the months that lie ahead, we look forward to
presenting the details of our new dates, including the announcement of some
exciting events surrounding the fourth of July that are in the works,” said
Tournament Director Gregory Vickers. |
