The Manitou Springs Arts Council is calling for entries of large-scale sculpture
for display in downtown Manitou. Public art is a prominent component of
Manitou's downtown revitalization project. It is also a goal of the Manitou
Springs Arts Council to promote public art and establish Manitou Springs as a
cultural and artistic center.
The call is open to both professional and amateur artists. Sandstone pedestals
will be provided for each piece. The total height of each pedestal is 19 inches.
Pedestal bodies are two-foot square, topped by a three-inch thick, 2.5x2.5 foot
cap, on top of which is a 2x2 foot by 3/8 inch thick steel plate for welding.
Sculptures should be able to withstand weather and possible vandalism and be
sufficiently heavy to prevent theft. Cultural and artistic diversity is
encouraged. Pieces submitted must be finished and ready for outdoor exhibition.
Pieces accepted must be on display for one year from installation
Submissions by photograph, prints, slides and digital images are welcome. They
must include complete artist contact information and indicate the medium and
dimensions of the sculptures. Works exhibited may be sold by the artist. The
Manitou Springs Arts Council will retain a 25 percent commission. Sculptures
that are chosen must be ready for installation by May 20.
Mail submissions to the Manitou Springs Arts Council, PO Box 61, Manitou
Springs, CO, 80829 or email artguffaw@yahoo.com. The deadline for submissions is
April 28. Notification of selections will be announced by May 11.
