FAC modern – the hottest thing to hit downtown

The cultural milieu of downtown Colorado Springs will never be the same again. On Apr 15 the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center will open the FAC MODERN in Plaza of the Rockies, at 121 South Tejon Street in Colorado Springs. This permanent, satellite venue will present edgy, contemporary museum exhibitions, as well as feature the trendsetting FAC MODERN Jazz Bistro and the FAC MODERN Museum Shop.

Everyone is invited to join us for a grand opening celebration on Sat, Apr 15, from 4 pm to midnight. As always, Fine Arts Center members receive free admission, and prices for non-members range from $3 - 5. Underground parking will be available for $4 on this evening.

Premiering on April 15, 4 pm to midnight:

• Annie Leibovitz: American Music, the first exhibition in the FAC MODERN Galleries, sponsored by the Bee Vradenburg Foundation.
• The FAC MODERN Jazz Bistro, featuring live jazz and the unveiling of our Dale Chihuly Persian Glass Wall installation.
• The FAC MODERN Museum Shop, featuring a wide variety of fine art and merchandise related to current exhibitions and artists in our permanent collection.

In February, The Fine Arts Center entered into an agreement with Nor’wood Development Group to operate the FAC MODERN, an 8,000 square foot space at Plaza of the Rockies. It is through the generosity of Nor’wood that the Fine Arts Center will continue to present world-class exhibitions without interruption during the expansion at its main facility. Following the reopening of the Fine Arts Center in Nov 2007, the FAC MODERN will continue to offer alternative museum and lifestyle experiences.

“While the MODERN is a bold and engaging addition to the Plaza of the Rockies, it also represents a progressive new trend for the arts in downtown Colorado Springs,” comments Chris Jenkins, Nor’wood principal and board member of the Fine Arts Center. “It will be a treasure for our city center, enriching the downtown experience as we know it. Nor'wood is proud to play host to this dynamic new urban gallery," he concludes.

Upcoming exhibitions at the FAC MODERN include Annie Leibovitz: American Music from April 15 through May 14, James McNeill Whistler: Selected Works from the Hunterian Art Gallery from May 27 through Aug 20, and the recently-purchased works of Dale Chihuly in the fall of 2006.

Admission for FAC Members is Free, Non-members: $5 - Adults; $4 - Seniors, Students with valid ID and Youth ages 13-17; $3 - Children, ages 3-12; Free for children 2 and under. FAC modern is open Mon – Thu, 9 am – 5 pm; Fri and Sat 9 am – 10 pm with the Jazz Bistro open until midnight; and Sun 10 am – 5 pm with a Sunday Brunch from 10 am – 2 pm.

Public Parking is available in the underground garage at Plaza of the Rockies. Enter on Colorado Avenue and take the elevators up to the South Tower. Guests may also park at the Fine Arts Center parking lot and take the free downtown shuttle to Tejon and Colorado.

First Thursdays Wine Tastings will be held at the FAC modern beginning May 4, when The MODERN’S galleries, Jazz Bistro, and Museum Shop will be open until 9 pm.
Live Jazz in FAC modern Jazz Bistro will be held every Friday and Saturday night until midnight, beginning May 5.
