Community Meeting Announced on Wildfire Mitigation ProgramThe El Paso County Environmental Services Department has announced that a public meeting will be held to discuss wildfire mitigation on Saturday, April 29 2006 at 9 a.m. at the Black Forest Community Center. All county residents are encouraged to attend to learn more about best forestry management practices including wildfire mitigation, defensible space, noxious weeds, tree felling, insects, diseases and more. Participants will also enjoy a Mini Melodrama entitled “Neighbor Helping Neighbor,” written and directed by volunteer program coordinator Ruth Ann Steele. Refreshments will be served. The Black Forest Slash-Mulch 2006 season gets underway on Saturday, May 6. The site will be open on Saturdays from 7 a.m. until 4 p.m; Sundays from noon until 4 p.m. and every Tuesday and Thursday evening from 5 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. The final day of operation this season will be Sunday, September 17. The season has been extended by two weeks to better serve citizens wishing to participate. Free mulch will be available beginning June 1. The site is located at the southeast corner of Shoup and Herring Roads in the Black Forest.
