Buell Children’s Museum opens Spring Exhibition
Eureka! Dreams, Design, Dimension & Invention

PUEBLO — Hands-on interactive exhibits combine science and art for fun and
learning at the Buell Children’s Museum at the Sangre de Cristo Arts Center, in
the exhibit Eureka! Dreams, Design, Dimension & Invention, Jan. 14 through May
27, 2006
Creativity: Is It In You?
Inventor Center
This activity will bring out the wild, white-haired inventor in you! Create a
miniature model of an invention. Learn about kids who invented real products. Go
on a “Walk of Fame” created by Belmont 5th graders and find out about famous
inventors.
Motion Commotion
What Are Force and Inertia?
Test force, motion and friction as you find out what makes some fun gizmos move.
Build an adjustable roller ball track out of kitchen objects. Play with a flick
ball and sailing streamer you create.

All Fall Down
What Is Gravity?
How did kids power their toys before the days of batteries, electricity and
computer chips? They relied on natural forces such as gravity. Come discover how
gravity works.
Balancing Act
What Is a Balancing Point?
Is it magic or physics? Make a slithering snake or perching parrot and find out.
Put balance in beautiful motion by making an artistic mobile in the style of
Alexander Calder.
Biology
Is It Alive?
Read “Two Beautiful Butterflies” written by Gloria Moody and illustrated by her
ten-year-old granddaughter, Kimber Doering and study bugs collected by South
Park students and then create your own original insect. Meet author Gloria Moody
in the Buell Children’s Museum on Jan. 21 at 1 p.m. Leave a crayon rubbing leaf
behind on the “Thankful Tree” and decorate a Tooth Fairy Box. Thanks to Spann
Elementary instructor, Patti Artichoker.
Astronomy
What’s Up?
Sponsor: Xcel Energy
Paint a constellation map that accurately reflects stars you see in the night
sky. Examine celestial mobiles created by students from the Custer County
Elementary 3rd Graders. Visit the planets, yet never leave the Buell Children’s
Museum with the new Starship Sensations designed by Danny Studen and John Wilbar.
The Whole World Dancing
In cooperation with Steps to a Healthier Pueblo in cooperation with the Pueblo
City-County Health Department and Pueblo School District #60
You won’t need a travel passport to try out dances from different countries.
Come join us on Saturdays at the Buell Children’s Museum from 1 to 2 p.m. There
is no additional fee with a paid admission.

Energize
What Is Energy?
Use the energy of moving air to make a clever toy. Piggy-back on creations by
Centennial High School art students. Push down dominoes, spin gears and test the
wind. See some great windsocks thanks to East High School art students, Christy
Furman, Instructor.

Inventing
What Do You Dream?
Put on your crown, step into Cinderella’s coach and you’re off to a world of
Make Believe in a bigger-than-life pumpkin. Use your imagination to act out a
fairy tale fantasy. Check out the designer’s life as a hat creator with cool
hats from the inventive folks at Elope, Inc.
Spring Break Magic
Presto! The Incredible Mr. E is back with an all new show to dazzle you with
magic and more! Make sure you get here early because tickets to this show will
disappear fast. You won’t want to miss Pueblo’s funniest Magician free with your
paid admission March 21 through 25.
Admission to the Arts Center, including the Buell Children’s Museum and Helen T.
White Galleries, is $4 for adults and $3 for children. Members of the Arts
Center receive free admission. Hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 4
