St. Mary-Corwin Offers Community Flu ClinicsWith flu season right around the corner, St. Mary-Corwin Medical Center is offering flu and pneumonia vaccines at clinics on Wednesday, Oct. 26 and Saturday, Nov. 12 from 9 a.m. to noon. The clinics will be held on the hospital campus in the Medical Technology Pavilion’s Weaver Auditorium (formerly the Southern Colorado Clinic), located at 2002 Lake Ave. Flu shots are available for those six months and older, and will cost $25 each. Pneumonia shots cost $35 and are available for those 18 years and older. FluMist, a nasal flu vaccine, is also available for $25 for those five through 49 years of age who are healthy and have no underlying medical conditions. This is a great vaccine for children. The vaccine begins to protect you from the flu virus after two weeks, so since the flu season peaks from December to April, fall is the best time to get the vaccine. To protect yourself, you need to receive a flu shot each year. People most at risk for serious complications from the flu include anyone over 65, all children six to 23 months of age, as well as adults and children with pre-existing chronic lung disease, such as asthma, emphysema, chronic bronchitis and other chronic diseases. Household members of people in high-risk groups are also at risk as they may be exposed to the virus. For those who have Medicare Part B as their primary insurance, Secure Horizons, and Rocky Mountain Health Plan, the flu vaccine is free upon presentation of your membership card. For questions, call ASK-A-NURSE at 719-560-4357. Nurses are available 24
hours a day. |
