5th Annual Dia de los Muertos
The Latino Chamber of Commerce and the El Pueblo History Museum will present
Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) celebration Friday, October 28th, 2005.
This traditional holiday of remembrance of the deceased will begin with a
candlelight ceremony at 5:30 p.m. at the Latino Chamber, 215 S. Victoria Ave.
The ceremony will include a brief overview of the holiday’s traditions by parade
marshal John Nava. Participants will lead the path for the ensuing procession,
which will begin at 6 p.m. and continue on Union Avenue to the El Pueblo History
Museum.
At the Museum participants will have the opportunity to sample traditional foods
such as pan de muerto, pan dulce, and atole. Other activities include face
painting, sugar skull painting, and a costume contest for kids. Best-dressed
skeleton and monarch butterfly will be awarded prizes. Attendees will also have
the chance to observe a traditional altar during the festivities. Those
interested in placing an item on the altar in memory of a loved one are welcome
to do so; please make sure the item is not something of value.
A fiesta will follow at 7 p.m. at the Pueblo Union Depot, 132 West "B" Street.
Admission is $5 and you must be 21 to attend. Partygoers are encouraged to dress
up for a chance to win great prizes. Come prepared to request your favorite
songs as a DJ from PM Productions plays your desired hits. RSVP by October 27th
by calling the Latino Chamber at 719-542-5513.
