What is SHARE?

SHARE stands for Self Help and Resource Exchange. SHARE was created on the belief that if every person came together and shared their natural gifts and talents with the common goal of making food more affordable for everyone, this goal could be achieved. Twenty years later, SHARE has surpassed the vision of its creators and is working to extend its resources so SHARE can give back to the community even more.

SHARE is a once a month food program that operates like a co-op buying club. The difference is SHARE is a non-profit organization that does not require you to become a member. Anyone can purchase as often as they like with no limits. The savings for those who participate is around 50 percent off the average retail grocery prices.

The way SHARE works is, participants go to a local host site on a specific date and pre-order their grocery selection. Then at the end of the month, participants return to the same host site on distribution day and pick up their order.

As a non-profit program, SHARE relies heavily on volunteers. More than 4,000 volunteers and less than 20 paid staff make the program happen every month. These savings are achieved by buying in bulk, operating with primarily volunteers, and by not maintaining large inventories. Plus, being a non-profit organization we’re not in it for the money, we are here to make your community a better place.
