The Avondale, Boone and Pueblo County Veterans Foundation will be having its:

Third Annual Avondale, Boone and Pueblo County Veterans Parade

on Saturday, October 8, 2005, in Avondale, Colorado.

The parade and other events planned for this day will honor the
military veterans from Avondale and surrounding Pueblo County
communities who have give their commitment to our country to protect
the freedoms that we, as Americans, have come to appreciate. Area
veterans and various military as well as other local groups will
participate in a parade through Avondale to honor veterans, male and
female, living and deceased.

In addition, we will also honor the seven young men from the Avondale area (a population of 500) who gave the supreme sacrifice to their country during the Vietnam War.

The festivities will commence with a free community breakfast and pre-parade entertainment starting at 8 a.m. and the parade will start at 11:00 a.m.

There were 50 entries and over 800 persons participated in last year’s parade, which was held on Saturday, October 16, 2004. Participants in last year’s parade included Pueblo County high schools marching bands and Junior ROTC units, horse teams, the Al Kaly Klowns, Veterans organizations, and the Air Force Academy Cadet Honor Guard. We also had a flyover by an Air Force C-130 transport plane.

The Honorary Parade Marshal for last year’s parade was U.S. House of Representatives candidate and veteran John Salazar. Congressman Salazar has graciously accepted our invitation to be our Honorary Parade Marshal again this year. We also anticipate even more entries in this year’s parade.

Our Parade is funded entirely by monetary and in-kind donations from Pueblo City and County merchants, Veterans organizations and private individuals. Any funds that are retained after parade expenses have been paid will be used to help fund a memorial to honor all Pueblo County Veterans. The memorial will be built in Avondale. A drawing of the proposed memorial is shown above.

For more information regarding our “Grand” Parade, please contact Dan Aragon at (719) 947-1149.
