Celebrate Pueblo’s Chile Harvest

Loaf ‘N Jug Presents The 11th Annual Chile & Frijoles Festival

Pueblo will celebrate the harvest of the Mira Sol Chile as Loaf N Jug presents the 11th Annual Chile & Frijoles Festival, Sept. 23-25. The Greater Pueblo Chamber of Commerce created the festival as a fun fall event designed to promote the area’s agriculture, especially its home-grown chilies and pinto beans, as well as to display the works of many talented artisans and craftsmen. In the past years, the festival has grown from a few thousand people to well over 70,000.

After the kick-off event, Representing The West Art Show & Sale at the Sangre de Cristo Arts Center on Thursday, Sept. 22 from 5-8pm, the festival will take place in downtown Pueblo, on Union Avenue between 1st Street and D Street.

In conjunction with the Chile & Frijoles Festival, the Pueblo Convention Center will host the Chile & Frijoles Festival Art Show on Friday evening, Saturday and Sunday. The show illuminates the richness and diversity of our artistic community.

Festival activities will include chile roasting; cooking competitions featuring contestants’ favorite green chile, red chile, salsa and bean recipes; jalapeno eating contests; a farmers’ market with farm-fresh Pueblo chilies and other great produce and a 5K Hot to Trot Fun Run.

In addition to enjoying the aroma of freshly roasted Pueblo chilies, visitors will be treated to the displays of both Pueblo and regional artists, as well as the sights and sounds of continuous live entertainment including blues, jazz, tejano and country style bands.

This year’s festival promises to be even bigger than last year’s. For more information on the weekend’s activities, call the Greater Pueblo Chamber at 719-542-1704 or go to www.pueblochamber.org .
