Community Health Agencies Host Prostate Education and Screening Event

On Saturday, September 24, 2005, local health care agencies are hosting a prostate cancer education and screening event for men in our community at the Hillside Community Center, 925 S. Institute. Activities and times include:

• Educational Seminar—“What Every Man Needs to Know About Prostate Cancer,” 8:45 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.
• Prostate Cancer Screenings—Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) blood draw available to all attendees at a nominal cost of $5 ($54 value), 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
• Wellness information and activities throughout the morning.

Participating organizations include the American Cancer Society, Cancer Center of Colorado Springs, Memorial Hospital Cancer Center, Penrose Cancer Center, Peak Vista and Rocky Mountain Cancer Centers.

Note: The American Cancer Society recommends the following prostate cancer screening guidelines for men:
• An annual PSA blood test and digital rectal exam (DRE) beginning at age 50.
• Men at high risk—including African Americans and men who have a first-degree relative diagnosed with early prostate cancer—should begin testing at age 45.

For 24-hour cancer information, call the American Cancer Society at 1-800-ACS-2345 or visit www.cancer.org.
