Sheriff’s Office Announces Upcoming Citizens’ Academy
The El Paso County Sheriff's Office is now accepting applications for the
second Citizens’ Academy to be held during this year.
The Citizens’ Academy will begin on September 7, 2005, and be held on following
Wednesday evenings, from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. It will be conducted over an
eleven-week period, with the Academy culminating in a graduation on Wednesday,
November 16, 2005.
Classes in the Academy will offer participants a wide-ranging view and unique
insight into the various functions of the Sheriff’s Office. Participants will
learn about the countless number of responsibilities facing patrol deputies by
accompanying one on a ride-along, the challenges facing detention deputies and
staff by touring the Criminal Justice Center, and the intricacies of a criminal
investigation as detectives move them through the investigative process.
Attendees of the Academy will learn about these topics and many others,
including the use of force, vice and narcotics operations, and emergency
services, which includes our wildland fire and search & rescue teams.
There is no charge to attend the Citizens’ Academy, however, seating is limited.
Citizens wishing to attend should contact either Deputy Andy Prehm at 520-7340,
or Sergeant Jim Groth at 520-7275 to request an application. Completed
applications are due by 5:00 p.m., Friday, August 12, 2005.
