The Center for Legal Studies Introduces Legal Nurse Consultant Training
Registered nurses, physicians’ assistants and other medical professionals
have a new full- or part-time career option as Colorado State University at
Pueblo launches its new LegalNurse Consultant Training CourseTM (LNCT) beginning
September 10, 2005. This exciting new curriculum prepares medical professionals
to serve as expert advisors on medical issues to law firms, health care
providers, insurance companies, governmental agencies and risk-management
departments. The six-day live lecture program teaches legal concepts related to
the health care industry. Also included is the role a Legal Nurse Consultant (LNC)
would play in litigation, perhaps as an expert witness in medical malpractice,
toxic torts, product liability, personal injury, emotional distress, wrongful
death and other types of cases. Any RN or other medical professional interested
in forensic testimony and medical-legal issues will benefit from the course.
LNC’s are frequently hired by attorneys to provide critical assistance in the
preparation of their cases. According to the American Association of Legal Nurse
Consultants (AALNC), responsibilities of LNCs can include conducting client
interviews, locating and obtaining evidence, preparing chronologies of medical
events and correlating them to case allegations, assisting with depositions and
trials, developing and preparing exhibits, researching and locating expert
witnesses, and serving as an expert witness at trial.
The Center for Legal Studies’ course curriculum, offered in cooperation with
Colorado State University at Pueblo, complies with the educational guidelines
established by AALNC. This CE activity was approved by the Colorado Nurses
Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing
Center’s Commission on Accreditation (50.4 contact hours). Please contact The
Center for Legal Studies at 1-800-522-7737 for more information regarding this
course or our other challenging courses.
