4th annual golf tournament to benefit Puebloans diagnosed with breast Cancer
It’s the only one of its kind for our community. And, has benefited many of
those in need.
The 4th Annual Fore A-Breast 18 Hole Golf Tournament will be held at Hollydot
Golf Course in Colorado City on Saturday, July 23, 2005.
All proceeds benefit women and men in Pueblo County who have been diagnosed with
breast cancer,
Every two minutes a woman in the U. S. is diagnosed with breast cancer. In 2005,
it is estimated 270,000 new cases of breast cancer will be diagnosed and 40,000
women are expected to die from this disease. According to statistics, breast
cancer incidents in women have increase to one in seven today. Moreover, one in
every four people have had this disease touch their lives.
Dianna Moore established the Fore A-Breast Foundation in 2002 to assist others
in their time of need. As a breast cancer survivor, she knows not only the
emotional and physical challenges of the disease, but the financial burden it
takes to fight it.
The golf tournament is the foundation’s major fundraiser. It consists of a
four-person scramble format with teams made of any combination of men and/or
women. The teams will be divided into flights based on their gross score. Cash
and certificates will be awarded to first, second and third places in each
flight. The entry fee is $70 which includes green fees, cart, gift bag, juice,
donuts, lunch and awards. Mulligans will be sold for $5 each with a limit of two
per player. A shotgun start will begin at 8:30 a.m.
This year, the tournament will offer a hole-in-one hole for a 2005 Buick LaCross
sponsored by Wilcoxson Buick Cadillac GMC and a hold-in-one hold for a 2005
Harley Davidson Motorcycle sponsored by Waddell & Reed and John Cooper as well
as other prizes. Other competitions for men and women include longest drive,
longest putt and closest to the pin.
The longest drive contest and the chipping contest will have a cash prize
sponsored by All Star Roofing & Gutters and Pueblo Artist Carla Romero,
respectively. A live auction will follow the awards ceremony that will include a
giclee valued at $3,000 by Romero and various items donated by Harber Freight
Tools.
Moore states the importance and appreciation for the tournament’s corporate
sponsors. “Because of them, we are able to make a difference in Pueblo County,”
said Moore.
Other major sponsors include Dr. Charles Kessler, Dr. Philip Marin, St. Mary
Corwin Medical Center, Safeway, Albertsons and PDQ Printers. Special thanks to
all the individuals and organizations who have already contributed.
