What’s Happening at the Zoo!

Each year, the Pueblo Zoo receives several applications for the Zoo Crew Youth Volunteer Program. For the participating Zoo Crew youth, it is an excellent way to utilize leadership skills, build friendships, become an active community member, and build their work history.

Zoo Crew members must be at least14 years of age or entering the 9th grade in the fall to be able to participate in the ten-week program that started June 13, 2005 and runs through August 19, 2005. If the youths are considering a career as a Veterinarian or Veterinarian Technician, the Zoo Crew is a great opportunity for hands-on animal care.

As of June 25, 2005 through August 19, 2005, the Zoo Crew will be offering the following animal encounters at the Pioneer Farm area at the Pueblo Zoo:

Weekend Adventure Series
July 9-10 (Insects), July 23-24 (Aquatic), August 6-7 (Local Wildlife)– the Zoo Crew will focus on a different theme and will offer up-close encounters and educational information to the Zoo attendees.

Goat-a-rama at the Zoo!
Every day through August 19 from 10:00 a.m. until noon, the Zoo Crew will be on-hand to allow the Zoo attendees to interact with the Zoo goats. The Zoo attendees will have a special treat when they see the seven baby goats that were born at the Zoo during the last couple of months.

Close Encounters!
Daily through August 19 from 11:30 a.m. until noon, the Zoo Crew will interact with the Zoo attendees with a personal animal encounter (every day a different animal, every day a new close encounter).

If you are looking for a chance for your children to learn while they are having fun with the Zoo animals, these are summer activities you won’t want to miss!

The Pueblo Zoo is an accredited member of the American Zoo and Aquarium Association (AZA). Look for the AZA logo whenever you visit a zoo or aquarium as your assurance that you are supporting a facility dedicated to providing excellent care for animals, a great experience for you, and a better future for all living things.

The Pueblo Zoo is a not-for-profit organization and is accredited by the American Zoo and Aquarium Association (AZA).

Zoo Hours: Through Labor Day (September 5, 2005)
10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily
