More entertainment packs diverse State Fair lineup
Hot acts will make the evenings sizzle during the 2005 Colorado State Fair.
Music legends Alice Cooper, Cheap Trick, The Temptations and The Four Tops have
been added to the entertainment lineup as well as an amateur boxing event.
During Fiesta Weekend, the Charreada Rodeo and Sparx and Lorenzo Antonio with
Mariachi Tenampa will be the featured acts.
Tickets for all of the 2005 Colorado State Fair concerts will be on sale,
beginning May 7, 2005, at 10 a.m.
"Since we began announcing these acts a few weeks ago, we've already gotten a
tremendous amount of interest," said Chris Wiseman, general manager of the State
Fair. "Although tickets will go on sale May 7, we could still add a few acts
before Fair to round out our complete list of entertainers."
These acts join a varied list of top artists form country, pop and rock genres:
38 Special, Collective Soul, Diamond Rio, Hoobastank, Jo Dee Messina, Montgomery
Gentry, Kenny Rogers, and Uncle Kracker.
Vincent Damon Furnier, better known as Alice Cooper, released his first album,
Pretties for You, in 1969. Alice Cooper and his band have released countless
albums while pioneering a theatrical and violent brand of heavy metal that was
designed to shock. The most recent album, The Eyes of Alice Cooper, is a
contemporary rock and roll album from a very classic rock and roll legend that
marks a bold step forward with a nod to his past.
Formed in 1973 in Illinois, Cheap Trick released band's first album in 1977.
Through their 23 albums, the group links '60s pop, heavy metal, and punk. Hits
such as "I Want You to Want Me", "All Shook Up" and "The Flame" as well as the
band's energetic, infectious live shows have make them international stars.
The Four Tops have been marveling audiences with their infectious blend of pure
vocal power and sweet harmonies since 1954. A member of the Motown family, their
various hits include "Baby I Need Your Loving", "Reach Out, I'll Be There".,
"Standing In The Shadows of Love" and "I Can't Help Myself (Sugar Pie Honey
Bunch)". In 2004, the group celebrated their 50th anniversary, and they continue
to entertain audiences worldwide.
For more than forty years, The Temptations have recorded a series of smash hits
and performed sold-out venues throughout the world. An essential component of
the original Motown machine, the group began their musical life in Detroit in
the early sixties. Hits such as "The Way You Do the things You Do", "My Girl",
"Get Ready" and "Ain't Too Proud to Beg" turned the guys into stars. Although
members of the group have evolved, The Temptations remained true to their
tradition.
By the time Lorenzo Antonio was 12, he had already sold more than a million
records. He has platinum and gold records for both singing and song writing. He
co-wrote the hit albums Te Amo, Te Amo, Te Amo and Mandame Flores, interpreted
by his sisters, Sparx. His current album, Canta Rancheras y Mas, has proved
Antonio's ability to put out hit records because it is one of the fastest
selling records in his career.
Last Man Standing is an amateur night of fighting that divides brawlers into two
eight divisions: 150 to 190 pounds and 191 to 250 pounds. The single elimination
competition awards points for aggression, power, number of hits and defensive
tactics. The event is sanctioned by the Colorado Boxing Association, and matches
are officiated by a professional referee.
