Education is the focus on Diabetes Alert Day
The American Diabetes Association has designated the fourth Tuesday of March
each year as American Diabetes Alert Day. This one-day call-to-action is
designed to help raise awareness of the disease and the latest techniques for
dealing with this growing problem which cost consumers $132 billion in 2002 in
the U.S. alone.
According to the ADA, 18.2 million people (6.3% of the population) have
diabetes, with approximately 5.2 million other people having the disease, but it
is undiagnosed. It affects 9.3 million women aged 20 or older, and 8.7 million
men in that category.
Diabetes ALERT
The ALERT is an annual one-day call-to-action to raise awareness about the
seriousness of diabetes and the importance of early detection and prompt
treatment. This year we will Sound the Alert on Tuesday, March 22, 2005.
Ballys Fitness has joined in the endeavor and will provide a complimentary
fitness assessment test from a Bally personal trainer. The test involves four
elements: body fat measurement, a flexibility test, abdominal strength
measurement and cardiovascular endurance.
Non-members will receive a free 30-day guest pass as well as 30 days of free
access to Bally’s online weight management program (www.ballynutrition.com)
