Chamber orchestra presents season finale

The Chamber Orchestra of the Springs and Music Director Thomas Wilson invite you to attend the last concerts of the 2004-05 season with a pair of stirring concerts for chamber orchestra featuring works of Mozart, Finzi and Mendelssohn and the elegant and powerful piano playing of guest artist Susan Grace.

This remarkable program will open with Ms. Grace as soloist in the Mozart Piano Concerto No. 14 in E-flat Major, K. 449. This elegant work of the middle period of Wolfgang Mozart's life, is a beautiful example of the world's greatest composer at the height of his creative powers. Ms. Grace, who has performed on several occasions with the Chamber Orchestra, brings a depth of experience with the piano works of Mozart, having performed his concerti widely both in Colorado Springs and beyond.

The "Eclogue" of British composer Gerald Finzi completes the first half of the concert. Composed in 1929, was the slow movement of an unfinished piano concerto. Widely regarded as one of Finzi's most beloved works, it is a piece of utter beauty and lyricism. Ms. Grace joins the orchestra as soloist in this work as well.

The Chamber Orchestra of the Springs will complete the concert, and their season, with the stirring and romantic "Scottish" symphony of German composer Felix Mendelssohn. This delightful work is as demanding for the musicians as it is accessible for the audience. A champion of the romantic era in music Mendelssohn often took his musical subject from the natural world. This particular work, written during a trip to Scotland, portrays the stark and beautiful Scottish landscape.

The Chamber Orchestra of the Springs has been captivating audiences with exceptional performances consisting of unique and literature for over 20 years. This year the orchestra, for the first time, has begun to offer dual performances of its concerts at different times and in different locations in an effort to attract an even broader audience.
