Arkansas River basin forum in Trinidad
The 2005 Arkansas River Basin Water Forum with the theme of “Cool Clear
Water” will be held in Trinidad for the first time this year. The forum, in its
eleventh year, will be held April 7-8 at the
Quality Inn.
The Purgatoire River Water Conservancy District (PRWCD) is taking the lead in
organizing the event. Thelma Lujan, PRWCD Secretary, is the planning committee
chair.
Topics for the 2005 forum will include water quality and quantity, “The Good
Samaritan” Law and domestic groundwater wells. The program will also include a
panel discussion of coal bed methane drilling and its impacts.
Nolan Doesken, Assistant State Climatologist, will talk about the Community
Collaborative Rain and Hail Study (CoCoRaHS). Besides the main sessions, the
committee is organizing tours of the Trinidad Lake dam and the Baca House and
Bloom Mansion Museums. A social hour will be held at the Mitchell Memorial
Museum and Gallery.
The Forum has been a focal point of current water issues in the Arkansas River
Basin and in Colorado since 1995. Planners, presenters and attendees represent a
wide variety of organizations, agencies and public interested in these water
topics.
