Hometown Military

Air National Guard Tech. Sgt. Lester M. Rosario is currently deployed overseas at a forward operating location in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Operation Iraqi Freedom is the official name given to military operations involving U.S. and coalition forces efforts to disarm and end the current Iraqi regime. Active duty, Reserve, and National Guard members from all branches of the U.S. armed forces are participating in the operation. The focus of the mission is to liberate the Iraqi people, preserve Iraq as a unified state, keep its territorial integrity intact, and help the Iraqi people begin the process of economic and political reconstruction.

Rosario, an assistant munitions storage and handling supervisor with 17 years of military service, is normally assigned to Buckley Air Force Base, Denver, Colo.

He is the son of Josephine Rosario of Colorado Springs, Colo. The sergeant is a 1986 graduate of Coronado High School, Colorado Springs.


Air Force Cadet Celestino Garcia has graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Colo. The graduate received a bachelor of science degree and was commissioned as a second lieutenant.

Senior cadets have the opportunity to serve as academy cadet officers who provide leadership, motivation and direction for the cadet wing and demonstrate effective officership in support of unit mission objectives.

The academy is a four-year military institution of higher learning that develops and inspires new air and space leaders with a vision for the future.

The curriculum provides instruction, education, training and experience in academics, military training, physical and athletic conditioning, and spiritual and ethical development to all cadets. They graduate with the knowledge, character and skills essential to meet the leadership challenges of the 21st century for future career officers in the U.S. Air Force.

The new lieutenants go on to serve as pilots, navigators, engineers, maintenance officers, professionals in various technical fields, and some attend medical or graduate school with special scholarships, while others go directly to non-rated Air Force-wide assignments.

The officer is scheduled to attend communications officer training.
Garcia received a degree in computer engineering at the academy.
The lieutenant is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Celestino Garcia of Hickory Hill Drive, Colorado Springs.

His uncle and aunt are Mr. and Mrs. Dirk Guijt of  Miami, Fla.  In the year 2000, he graduated from Archbishop Curley-Notre Dame High School, Miami.


Air Force Cadet Brandess S. Pardue has graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo. The graduate received a bachelor of science degree and was commissioned as a second lieutenant.

The academy offers a four-year educational program of instruction and experience designed to provide cadets the knowledge and character essential for air and space leaders, and the motivation to serve as Air Force career officers.

The curriculum provides a balanced program of military training, academics, physical training, athletic conditioning, and character and ethical development. The courses of study allow cadets to acquire a broad education in the basic and engineering sciences, social sciences, the humanities, including additional elective courses needed to complete requirements for one of 25 major areas of study.

The new lieutenants go on to serve as pilots, navigators, engineers, maintenance officers, professionals in various management and technical fields, and some attend medical or graduate school with special scholarships, while others go directly to non-rated Air Force-wide assignments.

Pardue received a degree in English at the academy, and will be assigned as a personnel officer at Dyess Air Force Base, Abilene, Texas.

The lieutenant is the daughter of Debbie Barela of Pitch Place, Black Forest, Colo., and Brendan Pardue of Canon City, Colo.  In the year 2000, she graduated from Overland High School, Aurora, Colo.


Allison T. Zamora has graduated from the Preparatory School at the U.S. Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Colo., with an appointment to the enter the Air Force Academy.

The prep school is designed to assist students in meeting strict academic and physical requirements of the academy. The school's program integrates academic preparation, military training, and athletic conditioning, which includes a primary curriculum of academic preparation with intensive instruction in mathematics, English, and the basic sciences.

Upon entering the academy, the cadet will begin four years of study in efforts to receive a bachelor of science degree and a commission of second lieutenant in the Air Force. They graduate with the knowledge, character and skills essential to serve as future career Air Force officers and air and space leaders.

She is the daughter of Ernesto and stepdaughter of Susan Zamora of Colorado Springs.  Her mother and stepfather, Aileen and Jim Playter, reside on Johnson Creek, Wis.

Zamora is a 2003 graduate of Pine Creek High School, Colorado Springs.


Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Seth I. Bueno, son of Lorraine J. Bueno of Colorado Springs, Colo. and Dennis R. Bueno of Colorado Springs, Colo., recently was promoted to his current rank while serving with Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron 367, Marine Air Group 39, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, Camp Pendleton, Calif.

Bueno was promoted based on sustained superior job performance and proficiency in his designated specialty.

Bueno is a 1999 graduate of Air Academy of Colorado Springs, Colo.


Navy Seaman Desiree Sisneros, daughter of Aurillo and Suzette Sisneros of Pueblo, observes the surrounding area at the base camp for modular cargo delivery system ship SS Cape Johnson as part of Navy Cargo Handling Battalion TEN’s (NCHB 10) recent training exercise. The three-day field exercise simulated real-world combat operations to assess the unit’s cargo handling skills. NCHB 10, attached to Naval Weapons Station Yorktown’s Cheatham Annex in Williamsburg, Va., deploys regularly around the world in support of U.S. Navy and Marine Corps forces.
