Summertime Circus of Colorful Careers debuts at the Buell Children's Museum

Hands-on fun activities featured through August 28, 2004

Come one! Come all! Explore careers in the arts under our big top at the Buell Children's Museum at the Sangre de Cristo Arts Center. Enjoy a Summertime Circus of Colorful Careers through hands-on activities through August 28, 2004.

Be a clown, an author, a greeting card artist, or shoe designer. What about an intriguing toy inventor or fancy eye glass creator? Thrill to these careers choices and more this summer at the Buell Children's Museum. IF you can dream it - you can become it - and don't even have to run away from home to join in the fun.

Boys and Girls... discover the photography, author Nancy Rica Schiff, and see some of the most amazing jobs like, who blows the bugle at he Kentucky Derby? Or, who fills the cracks on Mount Rushmore? Meet this award-winning photographer, author Nancy Rica Schiff when she visits us in July 22-24. Purchase your own autographed copy of Odd Jobs at her book signing.

Every Tuesday and Thursdays a 11 p.m., enjoy, watch and question an artist at work. These amazing artists - including watercolorist Joni Giarratano, cartoonist Justin Morenz, quilter Namoa O'Neill, musician Dan Masterson, glass artists Bob Lane, ceramicist Shane Jarret, among others - as they demonstrate their remarkable skills.

Step right up...and see the work of sculptor, J. Jules Vitali. For 21 years, Vitali has waged a personal battle against landfills by creating sculptures our of the polystryrene that lasts forever. He has carved more than 1300 small sculptures out of Styrofoam cups. These outrageous works have even been featured on CBS radio's "Osgood Files".

Fly through the air... and swing into the world of fine crafts. Let local artisans, quilter, Naoma O'Neill, ceramicist Shane Jarrett, weaver Marilyn Hoisington, basket maker Junko Brackin and calligrapher Judy Parry inspire you to make a basket, quilt square, pottery, woven bookmark or hand-lettered sticker you can take home. Art supplies sponsored by Pueblo Day Nursery.

Admission to the Arts Center, including Buell Children's Museum and Helen T. White Galleries, is $4 for adults and $3 for children. Members of the Arts Center receive free admission.
