"The Game of the Year", also organized by the Colorado Rapids, will pit two teams against each other – each the favorite team in their respective countries – Chivas, 10-time winner of the Mexican First Division Championship, and C.A. Boca Juniors, who have conquered the Argentine Championship on 19 occasions. C.A. Boca Juniors has won the Intercontinental Cup twice in the past four years, and has been a finalist on three occasions. The game is the second of four matches that make up the Coors Light 2004 Chivas Rayadas Summer Tournament.

Chivas has established itself as the most recognized and devotedly supported team in Mexico. The club, established in 1906, has won a total of 10 local championships, including four in a row (1959-1962).

Continuing a long-lasting tradition, Chivas Rayadas de Guadalajara has conquered all of their national and international championships utilizing only Mexican-born players on their team.

Founded in 1905, Club Atlético Boca Juniors are to soccer in Argentina and the world what the "Yankees" are to U.S. baseball. Considered by many to be the best team in the world, C. A. Boca Juniors have won the Copa Libertadores four of the past five years. They have reached the finals again this year and will go for the title on Thursday, July 1, when they play Colombian Once Caldas in the final leg of this year's championship.
In the Intercontinental Cup, played annually in Japan, C. A. Boca Juniors conquered superpowers Real Madrid and Inter Milan to win the last two titles in the world's most prestigious international club soccer championship.
