Seven Falls night lighting expanded this yearSeven Falls, Colorado's only waterfall to be listed in the National Geographic's "List of International Waterfalls," has greatly expanded its educational and entertainment value for families and friends during the upcoming summer tourism season by adding more extensive lighting and a self-guided audio tour.
"Seven Falls is spectacular during the day but nothing can compare to experiencing the falls at night when colorful lights make the water dance before you and the entire canyon glimmers," said Linda Carter, Seven Falls manager. "One of the new lighting concepts is based on the idea of pouring a colorful bucket of paint over the falls and watching the colors spill over the cliffs." All new this year are expanded educational opportunities of Seven Falls and the canyon, which are offered through a new self-guided audio tour. Visitors will be able to get a multitude of facts and history of the falls and the canyon itself at various locations. Information ranges from how the falls were created and the process of the water flow to the original inhabitants of the area and the geology of the canyon. This innovative program is offered in both English and Spanish. Seven Falls opened as a tourist attraction in 1881 and is like nothing else in the world, nestled deep within the Cheyenne Canyon. Cascades begin at 181 feet above the valley floor and fall in seven distinct steps down a solid cliff of Pikes Peak granite. The 224-stairs beside the falls access trails that take the adventurous to hidden falls and to a view that sweeps the plains. The Seven Falls viewing platform is handicap accessible via the In-Mountain Elevator. Seven Falls, located just ten minutes from downtown Colorado Springs via Cheyenne Boulevard, is open yearround. The lighting displays will be illuminated every evening from mid-May to Labor Day. For more information call (719) 632-0765.
