Mitchem, president of the Council of Opportunity in Education, will present the keynote address at the Colorado TRIO Day 2002 Celebration at the University of Southern Colorado. McNair Post baccalaureate Achievement Program. The public is invited to attend the TRIO Day Celebration in the Occhiato University Center Ballroom beginning at 2:30 p.m. Turning Dreams into Reality is the theme for the event which will include addresses by Colorado Lieutenant Governor Joe Rogers, Pueblo City Council President Mike Occhiato and Pueblo County Commissioner Matt Peulen. The name TRIO comes from the three original programs established by Congress in 1964 to help low-income Americans enter college, graduate and participate fully in America's economic and social life. The programs are funded under Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965. Currently, more than 1,900 TRIO programs serve nearly 700,000 young Americans from low-income families. |
