National Hispanic Political & Grassroots Training to be held March 8th - 10th, 2002 in Estes Park, Colorado The National Education Association, National Council of La Raza, National Association of Latino Elected Officials (NALEO) Education Fund, LARASA and the Colorado Education Association are co-hosting the National Hispanic Political & Grassroots Training Seminar to be held in Estes Park, Colorado March 8th -10th, 2002. This training weekend is designed to bring together some of the nation's top political strategists and trainers with 300 Hispanic men and women from around the country who have the skill and desire to become activists and leaders in their own communities. "The goal is to bring people from all over the country together for strategic educational sessions about how the Latino community can organize to become even more of a force to be reckoned with in the political arena," says host-committee representative Rufina Hernández. The Honorary Colorado Host Committee includes former Mayor of Denver, US Secretary of Transportation, and US Secretary of Energy, Federico Peña; Colorado Attorney General Ken Salazar; and President and CEO of Alvarado Construction, Linda Alvarado. "With the Hispanic community growing, now is the time to come together with a pro-active approach to politics to exchange ideas about what works and what doesn't when it comes to politics and the Hispanic community" says Ken MacGregor, of the National Education Association.
