Teachers, children, parents, an librarians, as well as the public, now have a
new web site with resources on cultural diversity. The Diversity Tool Kit
includes a cultural events calendar, twelve monthly bookmarks, and a searchable
bibliography. Highlights include:
A calendar describing significant cultural events, holidays and notable
birthdays. The calendar is available in both a visual and text-only format.
A bibliography listing ethnic-related resources in print, audio-visual and
electronic formats, as well as links to other web sites. Included are resources
for children and adults.
Monthly bookmarks listing ethnic events and recommended book titles. The set
of 12 bookmarks is available in Print Download Format and can be downloaded for
reproduction and distributed.
The free service is part of the Colorado State Library & Adult Education
Office's ACLIN (Access Colorado Library & Information Network) system, which
has been named as one of the "100 Great Colorado Web Sites." The
Diversity Tool Kit provides information on four major ethnic groups: African
Americans, Asian Americans, Native Americans, and Hispanics.
The contents of the Diversity Tool Kit were developed with the aid of a grant
from the Institute of Museum and Library Services with Library Service and
Technology Act funds, administered by the Colorado Department of Education,
Colorado State Library, 1998-99. Project co-directors are Eveline Yang (Auraria
Library) and Susan Kotarba (Denver Public Library).
Established in 1992 by the Colorado State Library, ACLIN is a cooperative
project of Colorado libraries. ACLIN provides statewide access to more than 230
library catalogs and information resources on business, health, government, the
arts and more. The Diversity Tool Kit can be accessed at (HYPERLINK http://projects.aclin.org/diversity)
